NFPF Grant to preserve The New World of Stainless Steel

August 5, 2025
New World of Stainless Steel

Chicago Film Archives has been awarded a Basic Preservation grant by the National Film Preservation Foundation for the photochemical preservation of The New World of Stainless Steel (1960), a jaunty, jazzy, and somewhat surreal Technicolor industrial film produced by Chicago’s Wilding Pictures Productions for Republic Steel.

This project will use a 16mm print from CFA’s Chicago Public Library Collection and additional materials from the Hagley Museum and Library’s Cinecraft Productions Collection to produce new 35mm polyester composite soundtrack and picture negatives as well as new preservation prints for exhibition and a 4K digital scan.

National Film Preservation Foundation

Since 2005, CFA has photochemically preserved over 50 films from our collections thanks to the National Film Preservation Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress to help save America’s film heritage. You can read more about CFA’s previous NFPF-funded projects on our Preservation Projects page. We are so grateful to the NFPF for their continued support in preserving these films for the future!
