Abstract

Apollo 8 astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders attend a special session of the Chicago City Council and are granted honorary citizenship by Mayor Richard J. Daley.

Description

The film opens with an interview of Frank Borman, during which he expresses a desire to develop a cooperative space program between the United States and the Soviet Union, but shies away from the prospect of direct collaboration. All three astronauts take the stage to field a Q&A with the room’s audience, and they receive medallions representing honorary Chicago citizenship presented by Mayor Richard J. Daley. The film concludes as Governor Richard B. Ogilvie remarks upon Borman’s invitation to Chicago sent by Daley having been the first message he had received on the Apollo 8 mission.
