Young newlyweds are awarded "Championship Steer" at the 1957 Chicago International Livestock Exposition with their cow named "Honeymoon."
Description
Telenews titlecard reads "CHICAGO." A handful of participants groom and exhibit their cows in front of a cheering crowd at the International Livestock Show. After the judges deliberate, an excited young woman, Sue Ann Lenderman Secondino, is awarded top prize. She and her husband Peter are interviewed about their calf, which is named "Honeymoon" because they purchased it for $100 while on their honeymoon.
The steer was sold to radio personality Arthur Godfrey for a record price of $30 per pound, a record that still holds today. Honeymoon's hide can be seen at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
