Abstract
An advertisement for Alberto VO5 promoted by Rula Lenska.
Description
Rula Lenska promotes Alberto VO5, a hair spray that claims to provide a 14-hour hold.
Although Rula Lenska purported to be a prominent English television and theater star according to her Alberto VO5 commercials that ran in the 1970s-'80s, many U.S. television audience members were unfamiliar with her, and her popularity grew out of sheer baffled amusement. Her name created such a trend that advertising copywriter David Lewis began a Rula Lenska Fan Club (formally called the Inner Planetary Headquarters of the Universe Division of the Rula Lenska Fan Club), and clothing comedian Stanley DeSantis began manufacturing a t-shirt sporting the question, "Who the hell is Rula Lenska?"
