Footage documenting the implementation of employee-friendly programs at the Cook County Hospital, such as free staff lunches.
This film opens with exterior shots of Cook County Hospital’s entrance and proceeds to capture hospital staff as they wait in the cafeteria lines. With full trays in their hands, the staff all pass by the cashier who keeps a tally, but neither party expects a transaction. The film concludes in the dining room where everyone digs into their free meals.
As a means of compensating their staff for delayed paychecks, the Cook County Hospital offered their staff free meals and credit for CTA transit passes. The hospital also offered pay advances while a $15 million grant from the state was pending.
