Description
Establishing shot of a sign for Chicago Midway Airport, "World's Busiest Airport." Kennedy and Nixon descend the stairs from their United flight side-by-side, with Jacqueline Kennedy following. Nixon answers a question from a journalist about Kennedy's chances at the Democratic nomination while Kennedy stands beside him, holding a copy of the book Advise and Consent. Nixon is then asked about Eisenhower's choice for Secretary of Commerce, Lewis Strauss, being rejected by the Senate earlier that day. He expresses dissapointment and places blame on partisan politics and Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson. Following several silent shots of reporters and cameramen, Kennedy offers his thoughts on the Senate vote, saying it was in the national interest to reject Strauss for the role.
