Nikita Krushchev visits Iowa on September 22-23, 1959.
Description
This film chronicles Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev’s tour of Iowa on September 22-23, 1959, as part of his 12-day trip to the United States. He arrives at the Des Moines airport, tours a meat packing plant (where he eats his first American hot dog), and then tours the John Deere Works Plant in Des Moines. The film concludes with Khrushchev's visit to Garst Farm in Coon Rapids where he meets with farmer and hybrid seed corn salesman Roswell “Bob” Garst, and lunches with former Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson.
