Abstract
Funded in part by Encyclopedia Brittanica, these short spots were directed by local cameraman, producer, and journalist Harry Mantel – most likely for public television broadcast. This specific vignette depicts the village lifestyle of those living on the Irish coastline.
Description
The footage opens to a mountainous landscape near the sea.The following selection of images caputure the surrounding scenes of nature as well as an ongoing celebration; Festival des Pêches. Folks can be seen cheering in the harbor and on a decorated boat. The following images portrays a family on the front porch of their home; a woman can be seen playing an accordion.
Next, a match cut of a shot of the sun and a light on a lighthouse transitions to the next scene. Fisherman are depicted on a rowboat, hauling in a catch. The footage intercuts with images of the glistening sea. The film concludes in the harbor where and a group of people including the fisherman are dancing.
