Abstract

A film documenting the Movie Star World Series played by 50 film stars as the “Comedians” versus the “Tragedians” at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland on July 10, 1949.

Description

The film’s opening shots feature Belita as she converses near one of the dugouts and blows a kiss at the camera. Other notable celebrities include Bill (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd who serves as the game’s umpire and his wife, Grace Bradley. Kasey Rogers aka Laura Elliott collects bats and waves, and Virginia O’Brien runs through the infield.

Proceeds from the Movie Star World Series Cleveland game were awarded to three charities, the Motion Picture Relief fund, the Cleveland Community fund and the City of Hope, a Los Angeles medical center. The series was also played that summer in Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York and Washington, D.C.
